Decoding Fertility Lab Results: What Your Numbers Are Telling You About Your Fertility Health
When you get your fertility lab results back, it can feel like you’re reading a foreign language—numbers, acronyms, and reference ranges that leave you with more questions than answers.
Are my levels normal?
What do these results actually mean for my ability to get pregnant?
What should I do next?
If you’ve been here, you’re not alone. One of the biggest frustrations I hear from my clients is that no one has truly explained what their labs mean—or how to use them to take the next step forward.
Let’s break it down together so you can feel informed, empowered, and ready to take control of your fertility.
Normal Isn’t Always Optimal
One of the most important things to understand is this: just because your lab values fall into the “normal” range doesn’t mean they’re optimal for conception. Most reference ranges are based on the average population—not on women actively trying to conceive.
Optimal fertility requires a specific hormonal balance and rhythm. If you’re told everything looks “fine” but you’re still not getting pregnant, it may be time to look deeper.
Key Fertility Labs and What They Mean
Let’s walk through some of the most common fertility labs and what they might be telling you:
FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone): FSH helps stimulate the growth of follicles (which contain your eggs). High FSH can be a sign that your ovaries are working harder than they should be to stimulate egg growth, which can indicate lower ovarian reserve.
AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone): This hormone reflects your ovarian reserve—the quantity of eggs you have. Low AMH may suggest diminished egg quantity, but it’s only one piece of the puzzle. I’ve seen many women with low AMH go on to conceive with the right support.
LH (Luteinizing Hormone): A surge in LH triggers ovulation. If your LH is too high (especially if it’s higher than FSH), it could point to PCOS or ovulation irregularities.
Estradiol (E2): This form of estrogen helps build your uterine lining. If estradiol is too low, it may affect ovulation and implantation. If it’s too high early in your cycle, it can mask a high FSH and indicate poor ovarian function.
Progesterone: This hormone rises after ovulation and helps maintain a pregnancy. Low progesterone may mean ovulation is weak or not happening at all—or that implantation may be less likely to succeed.
TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone): Your thyroid plays a critical role in fertility. Even small imbalances can affect ovulation, hormone levels, and pregnancy outcomes. “Normal” TSH isn’t always good enough—ideally, we want it between 1.0 and 2.5 for conception.
Prolactin: Elevated levels can interfere with ovulation.
Vitamin D, B12, and other nutrient panels: Your body needs key nutrients to support hormone function and egg quality.
Don’t Forget About Male Fertility
It’s important to evaluate male fertility too. Nearly half of all fertility struggles involve the male partner in some way—and getting the right testing matters. Inside my Fertility Testing Course, I walk you through the exact labs both partners should be asking for. You’ll get clarity on what to test and what the results really mean.

What If Your Labs Are Off?
First of all—take a deep breath. Lab results are just data. They don’t define your fertility, and they are not a life sentence. What they do is give us insight into where your body needs more support.
Here’s what I want you to know:
✔️ Hormones can be rebalanced.
✔️ Egg quality can be improved.
✔️ Your body can change.
That’s the beauty of a holistic approach. When we support your body with the right nutrition, lifestyle strategies, and mindset work, amazing things happen.
When to Go Deeper
Sometimes, your basic labs are within range, but you still feel like something’s off. That’s when functional testing or a closer review of your symptoms is key.
I also look at things like:
- Blood sugar and insulin resistance
- Inflammation markers
- Adrenal hormones (like cortisol and DHEA)
- Micronutrient deficiencies
These deeper insights can uncover hidden stressors that may be affecting your cycles, ovulation, or implantation success.
