Understanding ovulation is an important part of your fertility journey!
Your menstrual cycle holds valuable clues about your fertility health, and one of its most significant chapters is the elusive ovulation phase.
- the period phase
- the follicular phase
- ovulation
- the luteal phase
Following right after the follicular phase, the ovulation phase marks a pivotal moment in your cycle when your body prepares to release a mature egg from your ovaries. It opens a window of opportunity for conception, making it a crucial time in your quest to conceive.
On this episode of The Fertility Godmother’s Show, I shared everything you need to know about ovulation and fertility when you’re trying to have a baby!
Understanding Ovulation
Ovulation marks the moment when a mature egg is released from the ovary, eagerly seeking a potential partner – the sperm. Visualize your ovaries as tiny homes where these eggs reside. During ovulation, only one egg matures and emerges, prepared for its incredible journey.
Luteinizing hormone (LH) takes center stage during ovulation.
It acts as the conductor, orchestrating a series of events within the body. As LH levels rise and reach their peak, the ovary receives the signal to release the mature egg, creating the perfect opportunity for fertilization.
Timing plays a crucial role in understanding ovulation on your fertility journey. In a typical 28-day cycle, ovulation usually occurs around day 14. For longer cycles, subtracting 14 days from the cycle length can help estimate the ovulation day. Recognizing this fertile window is essential, as it presents the highest chances of achieving pregnancy.
However, the concept of precise timing should not cause unnecessary stress. Sperm can survive within a healthy environment for three to five days! That’s why it’s so important to prepare your body for pregnancy BEFORE you try to get pregnant, so you can create a rich, nurturing environment with preconception care.
